All four towns in the Nauset School District voted overwhelmingly to proceed with the high school renovation project, despite the $38.1 million cost increase. In Orleans, the count was 1,104 in favor — and 376 against. The margins were similar in Eastham (1,085 to 346) and Wellfleet (614 to 116). In Brewster, the town with the most students enrolled in the high school, and therefore paying the largest percentage of the renovation, the numbers were a bit closer (1,442 to 974). All four towns also approved a debt exclusion.
The project will now continue as scheduled with only a slight initial delay and is expected to meet its original completion date of April 2025.
